| Well, as my title implies, I have a news update about my motorcycle class. I am finished with my two week training course and....(drum roll) I passed the test and got my license!! This is very exciting for me. Now, I just need to convince my parents to let me get a bike. I am doing well with my dad, but my mom not so much. My dad even went so far that he told me that as soon as he gets his body back to functioning properly, he would take me riding. How fun, right?! I passed with flying colors. I had a perfect score on the evaluation. I was so surprised.
On Wednesday, a group of us went to Ocean City, NJ for the day. It was so much fun and so relaxing. We walked on the boardwalk, rented a surrey and the six of us rode up and down the boardwalk for an hour. It was both fun and cheesy. We ate ice cream and italian ices, went swimming in the cold (but refreshing) atlantic ocean, slept in the sun on the sand, walked to a pier, and played mini golf. I almost won too. There was a lot of fog but it was beautiful and not too blazing hot.
Yesterday I went to Knobels amusement park for the day with the kids and some friends. I had to leave early to get to my motorcycle class. Well, I was flying along the interstate when another car passed me but then slowed down and paralleled me and tried to get my attention. I thought he was saying "Your tire blew" but I knew that I would feel that so I kept going. I finally stopped along the side of the highway to see what was wrong with my car after countless people kept pointing at the car, laughing or gawking. I lean out and look and lo and behold a broom was sticking out from under the car. Yes a broom. As Anj asked incredulously when I called him "A broom as in a kitchen broom?!" Yes, that type of broom. The kind with straw sticks. I can't even begin to think how it got under there much less how jammed it was in there. I couldn't get it out so I kept driving and shrugging my shoulders at the many people who kept warning me about it. I finally stopped at a rest area and tried with all of my might to get it out. But the broom wouldn't budge. So, after trying every way possible a man finally approached me and started to help me. He and I worked together to get it out. It took forever and he told me my breaks almost broke. How bad would that have been? When he was done, I thanked him profusely and he went on his way. I thank God for him. Maybe he was an angel... Who knows. All I know is that I wasn't late for my class and my car was saved. It is one of the most bizarre stories I have ever been a part of...
| Summer is flying. I am excited to be going back to school but I am also nervous for it to start again. Mostly I'm just excited. I don't think that I am quite ready to go back though. Give me just a few more weeks.
I have been on a cooking/baking kick lately. Desserts, dinners, snacks, everything. When I grocery shop for my mom, I pick up interesting things to cook with. Tonight I volunteered to make dinner for my mom. I had so much fun thinking up what I wanted to make and then actually making it...bustling around the kitchen making delicious concoctions. Tonight I made salmon with dill sauce. Sarah, who doesn't even like fish, liked it. I must've done something right. I have been taking full advantage of my sister's new site where she and her sister-in-laws post recipes, books, movies, etc that they like.
Last night, my parents went out to dinner with Andrew. So, it was just me and the three littlest at home because Anna and Abby are both gone. While I was in the kitchen making dinner, I hear Katie screaming at the top of the stairs. She yells "EMIILY! NATHAN IS SHAVING AND HE GOT SHAVING CREAM ALL OVER HIS FACE, HAIR, EARS, SHIRT, HANDS, AND EYES!" So, I run up to inspect the damage and sure enough Nate is shaving. At least he is using his fake razor. When I go in, I see him leaning over the sink with his eyes closed and hand flailing saying "help, help, I need help!" After I wiped all the shaving cream off, Nathan says "I lost my shaver" (meaning his razor). After finding it, he goes for the cream again. In order to avoid a repeat situation, I tried telling him how Daddy shaves only on his cheeks, lip, and chin but not all over his face, fore head, ears, etc. I even showed him where to put the shaving cream and then had him look in the mirror to see. However, somehow he still ended getting it all the way back to his ears and then on his shirt again. Oh well. He'll learn someday where to shave.
After dinner, I shut the shades in our family room and covered the windows so it was dark in the room. Then I popped popcorn and we had a movie night. I laid out 5 movies for the kids to choose from. They narrowed it down to The Bee Movie and Alvin and the Chipmunks. They debated back and forth on what to watch and then Nathan declared "I want the Chipmunk movie because the chipmunk farts in the guys face and that's funny." So, that's what we watched.
Oh, only 6 days till my motorcycle class.
| So, I didn't end up going to the Nascar race or to the Outer Banks when planned because of an emergency surgery that my dad dad to have three weeks ago. If you want to know more about what happened you can read about it on my sister's site here.
That threw my whole family into an upheaval and life as we knew it was kind of put on hold. So, I didn't go to the Outer Banks when I was supposed to on Saturday night. I was able to drive down on Wednesday, though, with a friend and we had three and a half days at the beach. It was so much fun and so so so relaxing. Life has been so crazy and I felt like I had been going non-stop day and night. I had a really good time. I was back and forth on whether or not to go but my dad really wanted me to and so I did. I'm really glad that I did. I came back blonde, tan, and refreshed. Actually, I don't really care about that aspect of it, I just had so much fun and the water was warm and the waves perfect for boogie boarding.
But now things are starting to settle down. And life is moving on. The summer is absolutely flying by, but I am having fun and keeping busy. I wish that it would warm up again so that I can go camping out at the lake. I have been wanting to do that all summer and as soon as it gets warm again I am going to go camping.
I got a speeding ticket at the end of my school year and instead of having to pay a fine I was given 8 hours of driving school that I had to do. The judge said that it has been proven that paying money doesn't slow kids down when they drive so he gave pretty much all of us kids in the court room 8 hours of driving school. I told him that I was going home to PA and he said for me to find a school here and complete the course and then bring my certificate back. Oh, what a pain. Well, I searched for weeks (off and on, I was kind of lazy about it....I didn't really want to start the school) for a place that was state certified and I finally found one. And, lo and behold, the man told me that his 8 hour school I could do at home!! So, he sent me the booklet that I had to read and then do the tests on the chapters after I read them. There were 8 in all and it only took me about 3 days to complete. I just received my certificate in the mail so now I am officially done with my driving school. I am so glad to have that out of my hair. It was rather annoying, but maybe, just maybe, I will drive a little slower now.
| I have been an avid motorcycle lover for some time now and have been declaring that I will get my license to drive someday. Well, that day is now upon me. A friend and I went to take the permit test yesterday and we both passed. So, now technically I can drive a bike by myself and during the day. How exciting is that!? But, alas, I do not have a bike to ride...sadly. BUT...my friend and I are going to take a class together in the end of July to learn how to ride well and then get our license. I'm very excited to say the least. The class is at LCCC and it is three days a week for two weeks. It is a 15 hour class that is both written learning and actual riding. I cannot wait! By the end of the class, if I pass, I won't have to take the driving test but I will automatically get my license! I'm so stoked. I have been wanting to drive a motorcycle for so long.
On Saturday I leave with Anna for the Outer Banks for a week with friends. I am super excited about that too. It is going to be so much fun!
On Friday Dan and I are going the the NASCAR race, or the Pocono Downs or whatever the car race is called around here. He had two free tickets and since we are both redneck hicks, we decided to go. Neither of us have been to a race before and so we decided to go and see if we can find what the appeal is for so many people. And, if we don't find any interest and get bored, we shall just come home having had our IQ boosted a couple of points and be no worse off.... hopefully.
| I have been very remiss about keeping this updated whilst I have been away at college. I can say that I will try and do better next year, but I would rather just have it happen if it does and not make any promises. I was so incredibly busy...more than I have ever been in my life....that I don't know if I will do any better, good intentions or not. But, school was great...hard but very rewarding. I had an incredible freshman year, however I am really glad that I am done for the summer. It is so hard to believe that I am done with an entire year of college. I love it though.
I think that I said that I would keep my project of my rat updated, but I sadly failed. However, Shirley (named by my mom) turned out to be a really fun project. I never thought that I would say that but it is really true. At first I almost shook her until her brains ran out her ears, I was so frustrated with her. However, perseverance really does pay off, and after almost 30 hours of time spent training her I received an A+ on the project. Once she caught on to the exercises, she learned really quickly. It was so rewarding to spend so much time with her, but to have her really progress so much. In the end it all paid off and I really enjoyed the project. I am ashamed that those words have left my mouth...
I just got home last night from Nicaragua/Costa Rica. I had such an amazing trip. This has probably been one of my favorite trips to Nicaragua ever. And that is saying a lot because I have probably been there about 10 or 12 times. It was so much fun to have my entire family there. This doesn't happen often and it happens less and less and our family grows and spreads. I found it pretty impressive that all 15 of us traveled together to two different countries across the ocean. That is not to say that it wasn't hectic or chaotic, but we did it!
And now I am ready to just be home for awhile. I feel like my life has been such a whirlwind and I just want to relax and be with the family and my friends for awhile.
